My Engagement
Ours was an arrange marriage - 2 years ago. Our meeting was arranged by our parents and we instantly felt connection and comfortable with each other. Soon, phone calls and meetings became a regular activity, and it was like we had to share each waking moments together.
It didn't took us too long before we announced our decision to marry, and our parents were more than happy. But, Suraj (my husband, shy by nature and not so good with expressing his feelings) had not yet proposed me formally.
I even once teased Suraj that he is yet to propose me, and his reply was "Meera, I know you love me so why this formality". I was little sad, because deep down I had cherished this desire that someone will express his love to me and I will shyly nod in approval.
However, I didn't took this to my heart and said to myself, "never mind, he loves me a lot and that matters the most". Finally, our marriage date was decided and we got ourselves busy in marriage preparation, and by that time I had just forgotten about proposal. Then, just 2 weeks before marriage, he asked me out for dinner. That day I was doing my wedding day dress final fitting and was really busy, but on his insistence we went out for dinner.
Since, I was busy chatting with him about my wedding day look, I didn't noticed that we were not heading towards restaurant. Then he stopped the car by riverside and said "we need to talk". My heart was pounding like anything - it's 2 weeks to marriage and what he needs to say now. We came out of car and he slowly took out a bunch of red roses (my favorite) and diamond solitaire engagement ring and uttered those golden words "Will You Marry Me".
Oh my God! It was so romantic that I cannot express the love he had in his eyes. I didn’t noticed the tears of joy strolling down my eyes, and my silent nod. He slowly slipped that lovely round shaped solitaire diamond engagement ring through my fingers. He told later that he had asked my sister about my favorite diamond shape.
It all felt so good, nothing could be better than this. This was so far the most memorable, touchy and romantic moment of my life.
